DRM and content protection

Content Protection (DRM)
Dreamsquare uses digital rights management (DRM) to protect the creators and publishers whose work we host. This ensures that authors, narrators, and filmmakers are fairly compensated.
What this means for you
DRM works silently in the background. In normal use, you won't notice it. Content plays, downloads, and syncs just as you'd expect.
DRM errors
Occasionally, you may see a DRM-related error (like E1004). Common causes:
- Outdated device software — Make sure your operating system and the Dreamsquare app are up to date.
- Screen recording or mirroring — Some DRM systems block playback when screen recording or unauthorised screen mirroring is detected. Disable screen recording before playing content.
- Rooted or jailbroken devices — DRM may not function correctly on modified devices. Dreamsquare cannot guarantee playback on rooted Android or jailbroken iOS devices.
- Browser issues — On the web, DRM requires a supported browser with Widevine (Chrome, Edge, Firefox) or FairPlay (Safari). Make sure your browser is up to date and that DRM/protected content playback is enabled in your browser settings.
Fixing DRM errors
- Update your device and app to the latest versions.
- Restart the app and try again.
- Disable screen recording or mirroring.
- On the web, verify that your browser supports DRM playback — check your browser's content settings.
- If the issue persists, contact help@dreamsquare.com with the error code and your device details.
Why DRM matters
Without content protection, creators can't sustain the work that fills your library and screen. DRM helps us build a platform where great stories keep being made.
