The Art of Digital Book Restoration

The pages of a 150-year-old book carry more than words — they carry history. Each foxing stain, each faded letter, each cracked spine tells a story about the journey from author to reader across generations.

At DreamSquare, our digital restoration team treats each manuscript like a museum piece. We don’t just scan and OCR — we reconstruct.

The Process

Our workflow starts with high-resolution scanning at 1200 DPI, capturing every detail of the original page. From there, our typographers carefully reconstruct the text, choosing modern typefaces that honor the spirit of the original while ensuring readability on screens of all sizes.

Color correction is handled pixel by pixel for illustrations, ensuring that the hand-tinted plates of Victorian-era botany books look as vivid as the day they were printed.

Why It Matters

In a world of disposable digital content, we believe that the craftsmanship of the past deserves to be preserved — not just as a scan in an archive, but as a living, breathing reading experience that can be enjoyed by anyone with a smartphone.
